Give me taxonomy or give me death!

July 4th at the Museum of Natural History, in the rotunda...

Tourist, girl around 20, "...oh look, its a dinosaur!"

The figure in the middle of the rotunda is an ELEPHANT!

But years ago it used to be a woolly mammoth, right? RIGHT?!?

I have been arguing this point for years and I seem to be the only one in the DC area that remembers that awesome woolly.

Bring the woolly back.

I want to boycott Natural History until it returns. Like, seriously, where can they possibly be hiding it? Woollies are big and hard to hide. (Thank you, Captain Obvious.)

I think that's true! Maybe it's our overactive kid imaginations, but I really do always think something's not right when I go in there and that it used to be a woolly mammoth.

:) I wish you hadn't posted anonymously! I'd love to know who you are!! We could team up and try to get some straight answers from the Smithsonian! :)
